Muddy Buddies

Muddy Buddies
History: This recipe is from my dear friend Debbie. Every time we did family trips with them she brought this for our kids. Her Mandy and my DLD#2 loved it. It is still DLD#2s most requested thing for mom to send.

Ingredients:
9 cups your favorite unsweetened Chex brand cereal (DLD#2 loves Rice Chex, but mom sneaks in a few cups of the Bran Chex too shhhhhhhhhhhh she doesn't know)

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  1. Pour Chex into a very large bowl, set aside.
  2. Melt next 3 ingredients in saucepan or microwave.
  3. Stir 1 teaspoon vanilla in the melted chocolate mixture.
  4. Pour chocolate mixture over the cereal , stir until all pieces are evenly covered.
  5. Pour into resealable plastic bag then add the powdered sugar. (I have a huge yellow Tupperware bowl so I do this step in that bowl)
  6. Seal securely and shake until all pieces are well coated.
  7. Spread on waxed paper to cool. (I never do this, and forgot it was in the recipe)
  8. I leave it in the bowl and put it in the freezer. We love them cold and they will stay in the freezer for up to 5 months, but you'll never have them around that long.
Buon Appetito!
