Grilled Portabella Mushrooms

Grilled Portabella Mushroom Burgers
History: This is a new recipe that is my answer to a meat burger on the grill. I have made it other ways, but this is a very delicious burger.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil leaves (I use 2 tablespoons because I love the flavor)
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh garlic (I cheat and use garlic in a jar. . . I hate cutting garlic)
  • 2 medium (approximately 4-5 inches in diameter) portabella mushrooms
  • 2 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
  • 2 red tip leaf lettuce leaves
  • 2 slices tomatoes
  • 2 slices provolone cheese

Directions:

  1. Wipe Portabellas with dampened paper towel.
  2. Heat charcoal grill until coals are white.
  3. Combine butter, basil and garlic in small bowl. Brush butter mixture over mushrooms.
  4. Grill one side 6-8 minutes, then flip brush butter and grill 6 -8 minutes
  5. Toast buns.
  6. Place cheese on mushroom top.
  7. Assemble mushroom with lettuce and tomato.
