Grilled Portabella Mushroom Burgers
History: This is a new recipe that is my answer to a meat burger on the grill. I have made it other ways, but this is a very delicious burger.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil leaves (I use 2 tablespoons because I love the flavor)
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh garlic (I cheat and use garlic in a jar. . . I hate cutting garlic)
- 2 medium (approximately 4-5 inches in diameter) portabella mushrooms
- 2 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
- 2 red tip leaf lettuce leaves
- 2 slices tomatoes
- 2 slices provolone cheese
Directions:
- Wipe Portabellas with dampened paper towel.
- Heat charcoal grill until coals are white.
- Combine butter, basil and garlic in small bowl. Brush butter mixture over mushrooms.
- Grill one side 6-8 minutes, then flip brush butter and grill 6 -8 minutes
- Toast buns.
- Place cheese on mushroom top.
- Assemble mushroom with lettuce and tomato.
